Superpowered: FLL Robot Game Camp

Overview: In this 5‑day camp, participants focus on the FIRST LEGO League Challenge SUPERPOWERED Robot Game. Build a reliable LEGO robot, design modular attachments, and program sensor‑driven routines to complete SUPERPOWERED missions on the competition field.

Note: Experienced or repeat campers will build more advanced robots, code with Pybricks blocks or Python, and develop longer, higher‑scoring runs.

Learning Goals

  • Robot design: robust chassis, modular attachments, repeatable alignment
  • Programming: gyro‑straight driving, precise turns, line alignment, reusable MyBlocks
  • Strategy: mission selection, point analysis, multi‑mission runs, efficient resets
  • Documentation: run cards, setup checklists, and quick tuning workflow

Daily Plan

Day 1 — Kickoff and Foundations

  • Season intro and field tour: SUPERPOWERED models, scoring, and constraints
  • Build a stable robot base; add and calibrate gyro and color sensor
  • Program straight drive, accurate 90° turns, gentle acceleration
  • Deliverable: consistent launch and square docking in base

Day 2 — Strategy and First SUPERPOWERED Missions

  • Mission map: identify quick wins vs. stretch goals on the SUPERPOWERED field
  • Design quick‑swap attachments with guides for repeatable setup
  • Create MyBlocks for drive‑to, align‑on‑line, and deploy actions
  • Deliverable: one reliable, scoring SUPERPOWERED mission run

Day 3 — Consistency and Chained Runs

  • Combine gyro + line sensing; wall‑square and gentle bump‑align near models
  • Segment paths with waypoints to reduce drift over distance
  • Chain two missions in one run with a safe return to base
  • Reliability checks: battery level, wheel scrub, attachment repeatability, table variance

Day 4 — Optimize and Document

  • Tune speed vs. accuracy; add guards for failure modes (missed line, slip, mis‑dock)
  • Refine attachments for guidance, clearance, and low friction
  • Parameterize distances/angles; add comments and on‑brick prompts
  • Prepare run cards, setup jigs, and a field reset workflow

Day 5 — Dress Rehearsal and Final Tuning

  • Finalize two dependable SUPERPOWERED mission runs with timing
  • Practice launches, attachment swaps, and base setup under light time pressure
  • Friendly scrimmage with feedback and iteration

What Participants Take Away

  • A reliable robot base and at least one consistent SUPERPOWERED scoring routine
  • Reusable code blocks (MyBlocks/Python functions) for navigation and mission execution
  • Refined attachments and a repeatable launch/setup process suited to SUPERPOWERED challenges
