Boomtown Build: FLL Explore Camp

Welcome to Camp Boomtown Build—where kids become architects, engineers, and problem-solvers. This hands-on camp challenges campers to design better places for people to live, work, and play. Through LEGO building, simple programming with the LEGO Education WeDO robotics set, and teamwork, campers will imagine communities that are safe, fun, and accessible for everyone.

What Campers Will Do

  • Explore how communities work: Learn how buildings, roads, and public spaces help people live and work together. Investigate the real challenges towns face, such as overcrowding, safety, and accessibility.
  • Brainstorm and design solutions: Reimagine a safer, more welcoming town with creative ideas for homes, parks, and shared spaces. Sketch, plan, and test ideas like future-friendly buildings and inclusive playgrounds.
  • Build a working LEGO model: Use LEGO bricks and the LEGO Education WeDO robotics set to build and program a model of their ideal “Boomtown.” Add moving features, such as elevators, bridges, rotating platforms, gates, or transit.
  • Create and present a Show Me Poster: Document research, designs, and model features on a colorful poster. Share their work with peers, family, and camp leaders at a celebratory showcase.

Why Kids Love It

  • Hands-on building: Design and create with LEGO every day.
  • Creative problem-solving: Tackle real-world challenges with imaginative solutions.
  • STEM skills that stick: Practice engineering, coding fundamentals, and critical thinking using WeDo.
  • Teamwork and confidence: Collaborate, communicate, and present with pride.
  • Big finish: Families are invited to an interactive showcase on the final day.
