Learn competition geometry and solve AMC 8 practice problems.
The class meets on Sundays from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Grades 5–6 Competition Geometry Overview

• Textbook: Introduction to Geometry (Art of Problem Solving) by Richard Rusczyk.
• We move at roughly one chapter per class, with denser chapters taking two weeks.
• Every class pairs the chapter's core ideas with contest-style problems, including AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS practice.
• Focus on proof-style reasoning, diagram drawing, spatial visualization, and recognizing standard configurations quickly.
• Chapters 1–5 have been completed: naming and basic definitions, angles, congruent triangles, perimeter and area, and similar triangles.

September: Triangles in Depth (no class Sep 6, Labor Day weekend)
S1: Right Triangles — Pythagorean Theorem & Special Right Triangles — Ch. 6
S2: Special Parts of a Triangle — Medians, Altitudes, Bisectors, & Centers — Ch. 7
S3: Quadrilaterals — Ch. 8

October: Polygons & Circles
S1: Polygons & Geometric Inequalities — Ch. 9, Ch. 10 (sel.)
S2: Circles — Arcs, Chords, Tangents, & Area — Ch. 11
S3: Circles & Angles — Inscribed Angles & Cyclic Quadrilaterals — Ch. 12
S4: Power of a Point + AMC 8 Practice Set — Ch. 13

November: Solid Geometry & Transformations (no class Nov 29, Thanksgiving)
S1: Three-Dimensional Geometry — Prisms, Pyramids, & Cross-Sections — Ch. 14
S2: Curved Surfaces — Cylinders, Cones, & Spheres — Ch. 15
S3: Transformations — Reflections, Rotations, Translations, & Symmetry — Ch. 16

December: Competition Practice

If a chapter needs a second week, later topics shift accordingly; the December sessions are the flexible ones and may be reduced to review and contest practice.
